The Bishop Blaize, The Quay, Exeter, SOLD

The Bishop Blaize, The Quay, Exeter, SOLD - 22nd May 2009

Nestling on Exeterís historic quay and beside the Devon Wildlife Trustís visitors centre is The Bishop Blaize. A detached public house with substantial accommodation it has recently been sold by licensed property specialists Stonesmith of Exeter.

Previously run, for the past 5 plus years, by Hannah Birks, the new owners are Ed Borthen and David & Nicola Chadwick. All three of them are highly experienced within the pub and hospitality trade but this is their first venture as licensees.

Their aim is to make The Bishop Blaize a friendly local inn with families fully welcome. They are presently looking at introducing food and are in the process of devising a snack menu, with the food made fresh and in house. To start with this will be available lunchtimes and weekends. In addition, throughout the summer months occasional b-b-qís will be available.

One of the other areas they are expanding is the entertainment. This will be increased with monthly live music events, starting on 13th June with the group the 3 Amoebas. They have also set up a web site and up to date information and entertainment etc. can be viewed on www.bishopblaize.co.uk

The pub presently has a darts and Sunday league football team but they are looking for players to make up a pool team. On top of this Ed, David and Nicola have invested in a full sky sports package for live sporting events.

Whilst they have no immediate plans for refurbishing the interior they have embarked on a major plan to totally refurbish and redesign the trade patio/garden. They have re paved it and are adding further seating, a new feature pond and increased the plants etc. This will then give then 50 covers outside.

A substantial 2/3 storey property it is situated in an area of the quay that has been redeveloped over the past few years and provides a mix of residential, commercial, retail and tourist use.

The property comprises a ground floor open plan trade area with a mix of seating and standing areas and a pool area with seating for approx 12. The first floor provides a commercial kitchen and private accommodation, which offers a living room, utility room, bathroom and 4 bedrooms. The second floor is unused but could provide additional accommodation. Outside to the rear is the trade patio/garden.

A leasehold business, Stonesmith sold The Bishop Blaize for an undisclosed amount.
